Optimal Space-Saving Tips for Packing Boxes

Optimal Space-Saving Tips for Packing Boxes

Do you often find yourself throwing out boxes because they are too big for your space? You're not alone. We all have those moments when we realize the box isn't going to work, and we need to start over with a smaller one, but is there any way to keep this from happening as much as possible? Yes! Read on for some tips that will help you save time and space in packing boxes.

Pack Essential Items Only

Think about which items you absolutely must keep and leave the rest behind if they don't fit in the box. You can get rid of things after your move, so there is no reason to force them into a box just because it's too big! Don't forget to save space by using bins or totes instead of traditional cardboard moving boxes when you only need them temporarily during the move.

Fill All Spaces Inside the Box

Make sure all spaces between items inside the box are filled up with small bits like clothing tags, packing peanuts, or other loose material. This will ensure that nothing gets jostled around while moving and reduces wasted space at the same time. If needed, wrap fragile objects individually before placing them in the box.

Arrange Items Properly

Pack heavier items on the bottom of the box and lighter ones on top. This will help keep the box from becoming lopsided and unstable during transport.

Protect Fragile Items

Don't forget about using newspapers during packing to protect fragile or breakable items from movement inside the box. This is especially useful when trying to fit odd shapes into boxes without any support from other materials around them. Be sure to wrap everything tightly before adding additional paper layers! The same goes for plastic bags, too - wrap each item first, then add a layer over the top to ensure nothing around while moving. Spaces between items can be filled with crumpled paper or more plastic bags.

Label the Boxes

If you're using many boxes, label them accordingly, so you don't have to open every single one to figure out what's inside. It may seem like an extra step, but it can save you time and hassle in the long run.

Get Rid of Cardboard Inserts

If you're not going to be moving a bunch of flat objects, try getting rid of the cardboard inserts that come with most boxes. These are only designed for small items and will take up space in your bigger box! You can also use them as filling material if they don't have tape stuck on them.

Use Liberally Tape

Finally, make sure to use packing tape liberally on all seams of boxes--this will help them stay together while in transit. If you're using local moving companies in Bucks County, they may require that boxes are taped up so they can stack them on their truck properly. It's also helpful if any wet or dirty items will be stored inside the box since it'll keep everything contained until it can be cleaned later on. Packing peanuts or bubble wrap can also be used around delicate objects before placing them in the box for an extra layer of protection.
